Below are photos of some of the equipment used in single channel recording.  Of course not all experiments involve a multi-line perfusion system, such as that shown below.

The microscope is enclosed in a Faraday cage to reduce the influence of stray electrical noise.  In addition, the scope sits on an air table to reduce noise due to vibration.

Voltage paradigms are delivered and data is recorded with the help of a computer and a patch clamp amplifier.

Here's an example of what some data might look like on the computer monitor.

In this experiment, 12 different test solutions are available.

A more close-up view of the perfusion system.

A small computer, different than the main computer which controls the experiment, is used to control the flow of the 12 test solutions.  This computer is controlled by the main computer.
